Mr. Som is a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest. He grew up in and continues to recreate all over the Pacific Northwest. In the last 40-plus years, he has hunted, fished, worked, lived, and explored the beauty and diversity of the different environments the region provides. Mr. Som is a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest. He grew up in and continues to recreate all over the Pacific Northwest. In the last 40-plus years, he has hunted, fished, worked, lived, and explored the beauty and diversity of the different environments the region provides. He also specializes in smoked specialty meats and has a commercial kitchen in his shop. He enjoys processing different types of meats to create all kinds of sausage, snack sticks, smoked fish, jerky, etc.

Mr. Som began his outdoor instruction and training in the 1990s as a U.S.A.F. Combat Survival Instructor at the U.S. Air Force Survival School. This is where he received his "SERE" name "Som of the Mountain." He was honorably discharged after his service and attained a teaching degree at Central Washington University. He took a break f
Mr. Som began his outdoor instruction and training in the 1990s as a U.S.A.F. Combat Survival Instructor at the U.S. Air Force Survival School. This is where he received his "SERE" name "Som of the Mountain." He was honorably discharged after his service and attained a teaching degree at Central Washington University. He took a break from his teaching job to return the the U.S.A.F Survival School as a civilian contracted S.E.R.E. Specialist from 2005-2009.

Mr. Som started Wilderness Edge in the mid-1990s. He began teaching civilians of all ages in the outdoors and has been doing it ever since while going to college and during breaks from teaching public school. He is endorsed in, and has taught many subjects, (K-12) has his Career Technical Education Endorsement, a Masters Degree in Teach
Mr. Som started Wilderness Edge in the mid-1990s. He began teaching civilians of all ages in the outdoors and has been doing it ever since while going to college and during breaks from teaching public school. He is endorsed in, and has taught many subjects, (K-12) has his Career Technical Education Endorsement, a Masters Degree in Teaching, is a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife volunteer Hunter Education Instructor, and has extensive training in first aid, CPR, Wilderness First Aid, Search and Rescue, and so much more. He also has a support team of top-notch instructors when needed.
